Report on Roboski massacre: extrajudicial execution
Report stated some victims died of cold as ambulances arrived late at the scene of the massacre
Following an extended on-the-spot investigation in Uludere, a delegation composed by MAZLUMDER, IHD, CHD, TIHV, Peace Council of Turkey, KESK, TTB and DISK members has released a joint statement on Roboski slaughter. The statement of the organizations established that Roboski massacre in which 35 civilians were killed has been “an extrajudicial execution and a mass slaughter considering the number of the people killed.”
Based on the statements of eye-witnesses, the report contradicted the allegations by Turkish officials and underlined that the group had not been warned to “stop” before the bombardment. It was also noted in the report that none of the people in the group were carrying weapons nor they responded to soldiers before the bombardment.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, IHD Chair Öztürk Türkdo?an pointed out that autopsy on the bodies had been performed in a neglecting way and without much care and said the delegation established that “Some of the bodies were burnt and their internal organs and skulls were visible and teared apart. The physical integrity of bodies had been violated.”
Türkdo?an also pointed out to the high destructive power of the ammunition used in the bombardment and stated that these people had been involved in trade border for long years within the knowledge of military authorities in the region. The report also stated that authorities hadn’t gone to the event scene for a long time after the bombardment which was soon after the event notified to military posts and observation towers.
The statement of the delegation also pointed to the strong evidences that some wounded victims of the event died of cold and lack of medical interference owing to the fact that ambulances and health officers weren’t allowed into the area after the event.
The statement ended with an emphasis that the event should be examined by the United Nations and Human Rights units of the European Council. Underlining that the state was supposed to admit the slaughter and make an apology, the statement also called on the responsible to resign and the media to give up biased broadcasting.
