A group of Turkish citizens holding Turkish flags and chanting slogans protested yesterday following clashes between Syrians and Turkish border police in the frontier district of Akçakale that resulted in the death of a Turkish police officer.
Some 500 people marched toward the Süleyman?ah refugee camp which is home to 35,000 Syrian refugees. Police intervened against the group and the demonstrators were peacefully dispersed. An unknown number also sent message to locals after the deadly incident, urging them not to be provoked.
A group of Syrian refugees clashed with Turkish security forces earlier yesterday in Akçakale after they were prevented from crossing the border. A Turkish policeman was killed, while two other policemen, five soldiers and four civilians were wounded.
