Fourteen prisoners have lost their life in Turkish jails in the last six months, according to the figures of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Prisons Commissions published by Cumhuriyet daily on Friday. The prisoners died while waiting for Forensic Medicine Institution’s report to approve their release.

The report says that 460 ill prisoners filed an application for their release from February to March of 2013, after the law on execution of sentences underwent a change and paved the way for the suspension of execution for ill and disabled inmates that cannot maintain their life alone in jail and do not constitute a danger to public safety.

The report notes that only 43 out of 460 prisoners enjoyed this right, while the demand of 417 others was rejected. 113 ill prisoners are still waiting for Forensic Medicine Institution’s report to approve their release.

Some inmates are also being denied release despite the Forensic Medicine Institution reports they have. These include;

Abdullah Kalay (Kand?ra F Type Closed Prison) : patient with advanced Wernike- Korsakof disease, also with 25 percent deafness and suffering from stomach and intestinal diseases. He underwent angio twice and his heart functions by 35 percent due to his dead heart cells.

Ali Haydar Y?ld?z (Metris R Type Prison) : paralyzed from the waist down and with great bodily injuries.

Ayd?n Çubukçu: (Ordu Prison) : suffers from advanced cirrhosis, previously undergone lung surgery.

Aslan Karsl? (Kürkçüler F Type Closed Prison) : patient with advanced Wernike- Korsakof disease. Given report five times approving that he needs to be released.

Bekir ?im?ek (Edirne F Type Closed Prison) : patient with advanced Wernike- Korsakof disease.

Hakan Gölünç (Metris R Tipi Cezaevi) : diagnosed with brain tumor, currently 17 mm but is constantly growing. Suffers from hundred percent blindness and also epilepsy.

Hasan Alk?? (K?r?kkale F Type Prison) : patient with Behcet disease, hypertension, cardiac insufficiency and diagnosed with cholecystectomy.

?smail Yavuz Gülverik (Silivri Closed Prison) : facing a critical condition due to the tuberculosis on both lungs.

Kemal Gömi (Sincan F Type Closed Prison No 1) : patient with the diagnosis of advanced schizophrenia, confirmed by 11 separate reports, being held in one person cell.

Lokman Akbaba (Tekirda? F Type Closed Prison No 1) : suffering from a terminal illness and is expected to live some five more years.

Sultan Özer (Karata? Prison) suffering from cardiac insufficiency, diabetes, tension, asthma and had a heart attack three times.
