DAY ONE

Day One: you wake in the womb only

to realise your destination

was destroyed – pogroms ago – by the dumb

acquiescence of the fearful and the ferocious greed

of the greedy

 

THE INTERLUDE

sad angels still whisper in your ear

 

you will wake in the womb only to realise

your destination was destroyed

 

by American, German, British, Italian & Indian weapons

by Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth killer fighter planes

by other stealth aircraft and British “reconnaissance” flights

by their costly missile defense programs

their Iron Dome, Arrow, and David’s Sling systems

by Iron Dome air-defense missiles, small-diameter bombs

JDAM kits (“which convert unguided bombs into GPS-guided weapons”)

by “advanced weaponry such as CH-53 heavy-lift helicopters”

by KC-46 aerial refueling tankers

by laser-guided missiles for the Apache gunship fleet

by 155mm shells, night-vision devices, bunker-buster munitions

by shiny-new army vehicles

by the costly “components of air defense systems and communication equipment”

by thousands and thousands of portable anti-tank weapons

by almost a million (or more) rounds of ammunition for automatic or semi-automatic firearms

by even more helicopters and naval artillery

by the much-needed components for the F-35 child-killing-combat aircraft

by countless bombs, killer-torpedoes, ruthless-rockets, other explosive devices and charges

by related equipment and accessories (useful to maim, murder, burn,

bury-alive, imprison, disappear, rape and torture)

and don’t forget the Hyderabad-made Hermes “Killer” 900 drones

nor the tonnes of rocket engines, the extra tonnes of rockets

with explosive charges

thousands of kilos of cold-blooded explosive substances

thousands of pounds of charges and propellants for cannons

and more…and more… much more.

 

All soulless-malevolent-malicious-mean

pitiless and remorseless.

 

DAY TWO

Day two: you wake again only to realise

you’re the last surviving half-human species in the intolerable

silence that stretches farther even than the limits

of an uncertain universe

 

…where once

there was evening,

and there was morning—the second day.

 

DAY THREE

Day three: there is no longer day three…

 

and history is a now a fragmented collage

of fading voices only to be forgotten,

powerless, in spite of their relentless prophecy

 

for there will no longer be

evening nor morning

the third day.

 

Not ever again.

 

INTERLUDE TWO

 And where was God, more-much-more than

16,000 dead children asked,

the One who said:

 “’Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place,

and let dry ground appear.’

And it was so. God called the dry ground ‘land,’

and the gathered waters he called ‘seas’.

And God saw that it was good”

 

wherewazgod, all the dead children must surely ask?

 

And where is the god of the Palestinians,

of the Jews, of the Israeli & American Zionists?

The God of all Peoples,

in Yemen, in Sudan, in Myanmar, in Kurdistan,

where..?

 

DAY FOUR

There  is no longer a difference

between day or night in

this Land of Barbarism…

Now, no longer the lesser light to govern the night.

No longer the stars

“… set … in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth…”

Here and now, only Death

“to govern the day and the night”

Only the deadly missiles to

“separate light from darkness”.

 

And there was no longer a difference between evening and morning.

And fire and fury became the fourth day.

 

DAY FIVE

 You wake in the womb only

to realise all the voices of friends have faded

and all that is left are the megaphones of

millionaires and madmen

of car-salesmen, rapists, and bankrupt presidents.

 

On the fifth day

you have woken in the womb only to realise

that the light lit bright and burning

is now only the latest litany of the merciless missiles

and all the dead dying in their tents

and in the hospital wards and in the concentration camps

 

and there will never be a difference between evening,

and morning— not on the fifth or any other day.

 

DAY SIX

 You wake again in the womb only

to realise

 

…time must now be an illusion you constructed

in your imaginary head and in the imagination of your

imaginary friends who float meaninglessly alongside you

in the mysterious water wondering why

we are all here at all?

 

And who we are at all

and what we might become

made in God’s image

as was said ^“So God

created mankind in his own image,

in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

God blessed them”?

 

But it did not seem so.

 

Nor could anyone see

how all that was made

see how it was made good.

 

For there was Empire and

there was Slaughter.

And there was Genocide

over and over

 

over and over and over

 

morning and night—the sixth day.

 

DAY SEVEN

 You have been awake in the womb only

a short lifetime

 

you realise you are about to be destroyed

by the savage technology of Entrepreneurs

and War Criminals

by the smirking lies of Politicians

by the acquiescence of the Fearful

by the unholy profit of the Arms Dealers

and the bottomless greed of the Greedy.

 

And days had passed by…

and what might have been good

had turned bad

and everywhere you were destined

to be born was on fire

with the ferocity of the “Human”

who was neither beast nor spirit

but something tormented

in between…

 

INTERLUDE THREE – A Storm Blowing in from Paradise

 Even in the stillness

when the bombing has stopped

sad angels still whisper in your ear

 

for god’s work was finished

and on the seventh day he blessed

it all

 

Now another angel has come to whisper in the dark

 

the Angel of History…

“His face is turned towards the past. Where we see the appearance of a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe, which unceasingly piles rubble on top of rubble and hurls it before his feet. He would like to pause for a moment … to awaken the dead and to piece together what has been smashed. The storm drives him irresistibly into the future, to which his back is turned, while the rubble-heap before him grows sky-high.

 

That which we call progress, is this storm.”

 

History or Catastrophe?

Humanity or Barbarism?

 

For ever and ever?

 

DAY SEVEN – NIGHT

 You have woken in the womb only

to realise your destination

is now on fire fueled

by the endless stupidity of the fearful

and the smug arrogance of the oligarchs.

 

You ask (silently)

is there a reason to be born?

to watch the dark depressing despair

of a half conscious species

tearing its own world in two

for want of an ounce of wisdom,

an iota of compassion

 

and now

as a new century repeats

the convulsions of the past

a stunning realisation

 

we were never neither animal

nor human

and the god that had conceived us

must now leave suddenly

to where we do not know

 

leaving behind

only this voice in the stillness

hoarse as only a dead child’s

first and last breath:

 

“once, our world was on fire.

Now we have buried our heads

in the burning sand.”
