Money (aka “plunder”) is / an American word for regime change / an Israeli word for friendship /a Russian word for the revolution of the kleptocrat/ a Spanish or Chilean word for a fascist military coup/
…and more, much more… – A poem by Séamas Carraher

“I care not what puppet is placed upon the throne of England to rule the empire on which the sun never sets. The man who controls the British money supply controls the British Empire, and I control the British money supply.” Baron Nathan Mayer Rothschild (16 September 1777 – 28 July 1836)

Money (“noun”) is:

an invisible breakfast our kids can’t eat

on their way to your school, its bitter and bewildered

windows all broken but its steel doors

still secretly forged, and always open, for suffering.

Money (aka “plunder”) is

an American word for regime change

an Israeli word for friendship

a Russian word for the revolution of the kleptocrat

a Spanish or Chilean word for a fascist military coup

…and more, much more…

An INTERLUDE

Here, for those who do not know (nor care)

here live the richest people in this world

1        Elon Musk            $839 billion Increase       United States

2        Larry Page             $257 billion Increase       United States

3        Sergey Brin           $237 billion Increase       United States

4        Jeff Bezos             $224 billion Increase       United States

5        Mark Zuckerberg $222 billion Increase       United States

6        Larry Ellison         $190 billion Decrease      United States

7        Bernard Arnault    $171 billion Decrease      France

8        Jensen Huang        $154 billion Increase      Taiwan-United States

9        Warren Buffett      $149 billion Decrease      United States

10      Amancio Ortega    $148 billion Increase       Spain

And here, for those who do not know (nor care)

here are the uncountable, unrecognisable,

the poorest of people, the ones Neruda called:

“Frutas de sol a todos los oscuros!

…Tú encendiste la vida”

the ones Roque described as

“those who had a bit more luck,

the eternal illegal immigrants,

who’d do anything, sell anything, eat anything,

the first ones to pull a knife,

the saddest of the sad,

my compatriots,

my brothers…”

but they have no names (only shadows

on the peripheries of poverty),

no faces we will recognise (as they pass

us by)

only statistics:

“In 1842 in Manchester, UK,

the average age of death for labourers was 17 years,

men, women and children were worked to death to fuel rapid

industrial expansion and grow the expansion and grow

the fortunes of the owners of this new economy.” (Oxfam)

…only a fear of figures that never match up,

bills unpaid, hunger hidden, debt collectors come

kicking at your door

… and still, they say,

we live,

in “the best of all

possible worlds”..?

And so Marx wrote:

“The worker becomes poorer the more wealth he produces, the more his production increases in power and size. The worker becomes an ever cheaper commodity the more commodities he produces.”

(Capital, Volume I, Chapter 25)

And even Timothy, the Disciple of Jesus, agreed

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”  (1 Timothy 6:10 – King James Version)

Please listen carefully,

money (aka “paper”) is what the banker created

out of the Void the day God died.

Money (in its merciless “mystery”)

is just another male prostitute for the stockbroker’s illicit orgasm

a 21st century Madonna with the figure of a whore

an agreement among rich pederasts and pedophiles,

an agreement now turning a Cold War into an Inferno.

Even the Blind

can see it

all around you.

Another INTERLUDE

UNITED NATIONS:

“Nearly half of the global population lives in poverty, defined as earning less than $2 per day, with over 800 million people living in extreme poverty on less than $1.25 a day…”

“God forbid”, i hear my dead grandmother pray

silently

…from her restless grave.

And More:

The World Bank:

“Global poverty reduction has slowed to a near standstill…

…Around 3.5 billion people (44 percent of the global population) remain poor by a standard that is more relevant for upper middle-income countries ($6.85 per day), and the number of people living on less than this standard has barely changed since the 1990s due to population growth.”

So Money (mostly inherited)

“In 2023 – for the first time – more new billionaires got rich through inheritance than through entrepreneurship.

All of the world’s billionaires younger than 30 inherited their wealth.

The next three decades will see over 1,000 of today’s billionaires transfer more than US$5.2 trillion to their heirs.

Oxfam calculates that 36% of billionaire wealth is derived from inheritance

is

the black hole

the bankers’ brain fell into

leaving no trace of its humanity

behind.

money, then, (aka “profit”) is the name for

the CEO

of a country no one inhabits,

its invisible borders closed, its membership only

for millionaires and arms dealers

money everywhere now

is the weapon-of-choice used both

by World Bank and IMF

their lies listed proudly on the neon-lit-walls

of Austerity, of Wall Street or Washington

this mass murderer’s recipe for all famine

always telling those hungry to “eat cake”

“work harder” or “stop moaning”.

Money today (aka “need”) is a hole

in the low-waged worker’s pocket

money (in its absence) is another “dictator of all maladies” – a cancer

money is an invention of thieves to fence their stolen assets

to their prescription-drug-and-cocaine-addicted children.

Money, then, is also the heroin

poor people are forced to seek

waiting in the laneways and endless lines

of another drive-by-shooting,

their small-children already homeless

and now abandoned…

mute and mindless, they live in

a landscape both bankrupt and in debt

their oil, and gas and rare minerals

like teeth

always violently extracted without

anesthetic.

Money (aka “a curse”)

is now the prayer of the Plutocrat

the origin of the Oligarchy

the chant of their crazy catatonic-cult

the one that we see each day

sever the wings of so many

falling angels.

Money is the unwashed hands,

the unbent knee of the corporate lawyer

an expensive advocate for the wealthy criminal

a plea-bargain for the prosecution

the algorithm’s artificial intelligence in place of a jury

a president’s platinum pardon

and always the brown-envelope for both

Senator and Congress.

Money (aka “property”) is

the right to cigars and fine wine

the international copyright for apartheid and racism

the after-dinner speech for a nameless and indicted Israeli prime minister…

an American President, and countless TV preachers

money…is no longer a means of exchange

but an armed militia in the service of the entrepreneur

a corporate catastrophe for the starving child

and for the worker, now only a consumer,

the daily burden of acquisition, this

work that never ends

(as Pedro Pietri said, long ago:

“All died

dreaming about america

waking them up in the middle of the night

screaming: Mira Mira

your name is on the winning lottery ticket

for one hundred thousand dollars…”

Oh, know now, money feeds a coalition

without class or conscience

its currency this corruption

no one can talk about

in the best of all possible worlds.

Money (aka “asset”) is another crackdown

against shoeless emigrants

the undertaker’s ship for these funerals at sea

the bankroll broken beggars dream of

the cashier’s check written in shoestrings and promises

the burglar of the pensioner’s pension and small savings

the banker’s passport both to Bermuda or Bailout…

You say “No”?

AIG  – “… the bailed-out company, which received taxpayer funding of more than $170 billion…distributed $165 million in executive bonuses.

“The bonus payouts for the Financial Products unit are expected to reach $450 million, while bonuses for the entire company could be around $1.2 billion”…

“AIG paid bonuses of $1 million or more to 73 employees at its financial-products division, including 11 who no longer work for the company…

“The top 10 bonus recipients received a combined $42 million. AIG’s financial products unit lost $40.5 billion last year.” (March 2009)

Says it all?

This same Money (“quantitatively eased” [QE])

was Obama’s gift to the greedy (2009)

is Bezos new concrete bunker

Musk’s colony on Mars

a post-catastrophe of offshore-Waterworlds,

you, or your children and grandchildren, will

not be allowed to enter.

“NO ENTRY HERE! they will snarl,

with tongues twisted in exorbitant terror!

Money (aka “stocks and shares”) is

the best artificial Viagra for billionaires

this extension of their shady erections

the Christmas tree ornaments of celebrity wives

their sexless servants and under-age massage “therapists”,

all the counted and counterfeit bills of their wet and wounded dreams

manufactured in the brothels and sewers

of investment bankers and financial advisors,

vice presidents or managing directors

with their bibles of financial modeling, risk assessment,

deal structuring, hedge funds, private equity

and always, always,  this bloody bankers bonus!

Money will one day be seen

for the (unavoidable) curse it has created.

a corpse that refuses to stay in its grave,

the loudmouthed Stockbroker who invades your house

while you work the night-shift

turning your children into obese obscenities

and priceless abstract art-works…your wife, just

another commodity…

Say no more.

Update – and an Interlude

Again (and again) listen carefully,

they say money now plans to turn Gaza

into a swimming pool

filled with cheap champagne and cold corpses,

with ageless girls and not-so-pretty financiers

and of course, golf courses, fed with the fertiliser

of dead Palestinian children

watered with words wounded in their propaganda

and this is the money that will redeem all

the war criminals

the Kushners, Blairs, Witkoffs, Trumps

and their Arab backers all now

“honest humanitarians”!

and all the Palestinians will be dead and forgotten

(they have told you this at the sharp of the bullet

not on the now-worthless ballot paper!).

CHORUS:

moneymoneymoney

(does not need translation but still:

dinero, dollar, d’argent, cash, geld, loot, lolly, lucre (“filthy”), loose-change, legal-(and-illegal) tender, small-change,  soldi, pennies, pesos, drachmas,
dough, windfall, wherewithal

but also

bonds, banks, brokerages, hedge funds, insurance companies, currency exchange, credit derivatives, investments, investment  banks, investment bankers, mortgage lenders, private-equity, the landlord’s rent…

all loot looted by louts with their armies and their attorneys

their meaningless laws written in invisible ink for those who

never learned to read

“The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread…” (Anatole France)

Money? you ask, as if you needed to,

“for-fuck’s-sake”,

Money?

“Who, the fuck, has any?”

POVERTY?

You meet it everyday on your morning walk

rooting through the rubbish bins

for out-of-date coupons already collected and cashed,

or bounced cheques without your real name

sharp-eyed you stare for this pittance of pennies

that delude you and your belonging here,

here, where you know, you were never welcome

you, yes, you,

are no longer welcome!

And so, Money (in reality aka “power”), i say

another electronic centaur headed by an armed drone

that drops 2.2-ton bunker busting bombs on children

at their birthday parties whose

parents already paid

for their funerals in taxes and

the corporate welfare of disasters

and climate-change-deniers

– should now be an international war crime.

Money (aka another “bailout”) is the meat mincer

workers once threw themselves (voluntarily) into

to make ends meet

Money (aka “liquidity”) is already

another execution with too many heads to roll

is the uncomfortable-history of barbarism

you dare not believe in:

Frederick Engels once said:

Bourgeois society stands at the crossroads, either transition to socialism

or regression into barbarism.’

What does ‘regression into barbarism’ mean to our lofty European civilisation? Until now, we have all probably read and repeated these

words thoughtlessly, without suspecting their fearsome seriousness.

A look around us at this moment shows what the regression of bourgeois society into barbarism means.” (Rosa Luxemburg, 1916)

moneymoneymoney (aka more “austerity”)

who wears the mask with which to terrorise

who feeds the aphrodisiac to the paid torturer,

money-the-crisis in the midst of catastrophe

its secret currency schooled in contempt

and military coups

and the bankrupt, the beggars, the poor?

Roque Dalton:

“Those who widened the Panama Canal

(and were classified as “silver roll, ” not “gold roll”),

the ones who repaired the Pacific fleet

on bases in California,

those who rotted in prison in Guatemala,

Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua,

for being thieves, smugglers, con men,

starving,

the ones always suspected of something…”

those

for whom this useless-yet-didactic poem

is written,

those with holes for pockets and not in-pockets

and with nightmares instead of dreams

the saddest of the sad,

my compatriots,

my brothers.” (Roque Dalton)

Money?  Let’s repeat the question of it

one more time

money – let’s say it again and again.

for those with no answers

in case, in all this darkness,

with our eyes closing and

our ears already deaf,

say it again,

in case,

already,

it is too late

for “the worker” who “becomes poorer the more wealth he produces”,

for those to whom “the love of money is the root of all evil:

now

the Power of Money must surely be

the Politics of all Evil!

UPDATE-NOTE

“And the stakes could not be clearer. The World Inequality Report 2026 — published this week and introduced by Progressive International Council member Jayati Ghosh — reveals that the wealthiest 0.001% now hold three times the wealth of the bottom half of humanity. Just 56,000 individuals hold three times more wealth than 4 billion people.”

“From the pioneers of the Industrial Revolution to the Silicon Valley entrepreneurs of today, technology has a magnetic incentive in the form of serious financial rewards. The coming wave represents the greatest economic prize in history. It is a consumer cornucopia and potential profit center without parallel. Anyone looking to contain it must explain how a distributed, global, capitalist system of unbridled power can be persuaded to temper its acceleration, let alone leave it on the table.”

“We know that pension funds are getting out of the US dollar right now. Why are they in the US dollar? Why are they there? Why aren’t they invested in productive activity which would perhaps help the green economy? Why aren’t they invested in helping farmers to become more regenerative? Why aren’t they invested in training young people and getting jobs for young people? Why aren’t they investing in countries with very high levels of unemployment and creating jobs? Why aren’t they? It’s much easier to make money from gambling and speculating than it is from investing in the land on the one hand in the broadest sense of the word or investing in labor. That’s hard graft for a capitalist. Fooling around in the international casino is not hard. You just sit on your butt and you collect the rent and you can do that for so long and they do periodically that all blows up and it’s

going to blow up again. [0:06 – 0:50]

Ann Pettifor on how Wall Street gambles with your future

“So, very simply, what is money?

“Gosh, you know, it’s such a big question. So, money is nothing more than a social construct. It’s actually one of civilization’s greatest achievements in my view. As we’ve evolved over centuries, we’ve worked out a system of transacting in ways which enable us to make progress. Um, sometimes too much progress, but… it’s a social construct. It is everywhere and everything. It is a promise, a promise to pay in the future. That’s all it is. It’s a promise to pay. We call it credit. Credit is money and money is credit. And once you understand that, it becomes less complicated because that’s how we experience money on an everyday basis.” [1:14-1:58]

Exploration:

97% Owned: The Money System | Finance Documentary Film (Netflix)

“When money drives almost all activity on the planet, it’s essential that we understand it. Yet simple questions often get overlooked, questions like; where does money come from? Who creates it? Who decides how it gets used? And what does this mean for the millions of ordinary people who suffer when the monetary, and financial system, breaks down?”

16:13:

“…there’s an almost in-built refusal of people to accept that such a bizarre situation could actually exist.

Ah no, it can’t possibly. What do you mean? Banks don’t create money out of thin air. That’s ridiculous. They can’t do that. They lend out their depositors’ money.” Most people have an idea of how money is. They are used to their own way of handling money and they try and implement their own idea of how their small household economy works into the national economy. And of course it just doesn’t work out at all.

16:48:

“By 2008 the outstanding loan portfolio of bank-created credit, also known as commercial bank money, stood at over 2 trillion. As recently as 1982 the ratio of notes and coins to bank deposits was 1:12. By 2010 the ratio had risen to 1:37. That is, for every pound of Treasury-created money, there were 37 pounds of bank-created money. In the 10 years prior to the 2007 crisis, the UK commercial bank money supply expanded by between 7 to 10% every year. A growth rate of 7% is the equivalent of doubling the money supply every 10 years. The amount of money they’re creating out of nothing is just incredible, 1.2 trillion in the last 10 years. That money is being distributed according to the priorities of the banking sector, not the priorities of society. The banking sector itself grew from 1980 $2.5 trillion to $40 trillion by assets. In 1980, global bank assets were worth 20 times the then global economy.”

18:31

“And the real money in the world to be made today is not by producing anything at all.

It’s simply by forms of speculating, basically making money from money. That’s the most profitable and by far and away, the biggest form of economic activity that exists in the world today. Today, banks are no longer restricted by how much they can lend, and as such, how much new credit they can create out of nothing. They are restricted solely by their own willingness to lend…”

Hope – for the Future?

“The victory of socialism will not descend from heaven. It can only be won by a long chain of violent tests of strength between the old and the new powers. ”

Marxists.Org – The Junius Pamphlet (1915) [34]

Victor Serge (December, 1936): “Everything IS at stake. Though the old world may not yet be crumbling-and on this discussion is possible-it is assuredly cracking in places. And at such a time, the clearest ideas that might guide us are falsified. The revolution seems to be turning against man, and particularly against the worker, assuming the implacable aspect of a totalitarian state, treacherous and blood-thirsty. Our greatest force, our greatest hope-international solidarity-is transformed into international intrigue, international persecution, vicious calumny in Moscow, Madrid, Mexico City. We have everything to defend, everything to save. And our foremost weapon is the truth. That weapon cannot be spared; the wound has bled too much. So much the worse for the lukewarm and the scoundrels.

…In the struggle between socialism and fascism, socialism will only conquer if it brings greater comfort and dignity to human life….
