Kenya policeman kills 10 in shooting rampage
Armed officer roamed from bar to bar in small provincial town of Siakogo shooting dead 10 people, including two colleagues
A Kenyan police officer has shot dead 10 people during a rampage through several bars in a small town north-east of the capital, Nairobi, a police spokesman said today. “He shot 10 people in bars in Siakago,” Charles Owino, a deputy spokesman in the regular police division told Reuters. “He went from one bar to another and was shooting indiscriminately. Apparently he was looking for his girlfriend after he left duty. “Among the 10 dead were two of his colleagues who were investigating the shootings. Apparently no one was injured during the shooting, all those he shot at died.” Owino added that the officer – who started the rampage after he finished his shift as a guard at the district commissioners’ residence – tried to shoot himself but had run out of ammunition. He later surrendered to police. The officer serves in a branch of Kenya’s police system that is attached to its provincial administration. It has its own chain of command which is separate from the regular police system. Siakago is a small town near Embu, 75 milesfrom Nairobi towards Mount Kenya. Embu serves as the headquarters of Kenya’s Eastern province.
