Yemen’s customs authority says it has seized boxes of arms in southern Yemeni city of Aden that were originated from Turkey.
An official in the customs authority in Aden told Yemen news agency that the officials seized Turkish-made pistols in boxes used for biscuits in a container that came from Turkey.
It said the security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.
Iran’s Fars news agency quoted Yemeni Defense Ministry saying in a statement that “the non-civilian cargo was shipped out from Turkey and the weapons were found concealed inside the cargo’s biscuit cartoons.”
The ministry statement added that an investigation has been opened into the discovery of weapons “destined to harm the security and stability of Yemen.”
