Seven journalists released in KCK Press Case

The 15th High Criminal Court in Istanbul’s Ça?layan district ruled to release seven journalists in the ongoing Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Press Case on Friday, reducing the total number of journalists arrested to 25.

The journalists to be released are ANF (F?rat News Agency) reporter ?smail Y?ld?z, DIHA (Dicle News Agency) accountant Pervin Yerlikaya, DIHA grant holder Zuhal Tekiner, Özgür Gündem grant holder and editor in chief Ziya Çiçekçi, DIHA Istanbul reporter Ça?da? Kaplan, Demokratik Modernite grant holder Ömer Çiftçi, Demokratik Modernite worker Saffet Orman.

The next hearing is scheduled for 22-26 April.

The court also ruled a ban on leaving the country for the seven journalists and ordered an investigation by relevant police headquarters into which countries the defendants have visited so far.

The court ordered a criminal complaint against some lawyers on the grounds of their personal expressions during defense, such as “political refugee” “imprisoned press” and “unreasonable indictment”.

Ziya Çiçeksi’s father Mehmet Çiçekçi was taken into custody in the hearing room for allegedly using bad language.
