“Do you wish to return home”? Letter to Israel of the Zionist Settlers

“These leaflets were dropped on Gaza’s starving population today. It’s one more clear and cruel way Israel is telling the Palestinians in Gaza that they are being deliberately targeted, starved, and uprooted.”

Is home the walls your soldiers turned

into rock and rubble

or the crater left in the middle of the road,

a bed for the corpse to sleep

so soundly within?

Is home a place patrolled by rabid dogs

where the sky only rains fire and blood

on a people dying of thirst?

Is home a land raised from a desert

of human feet

exiled and wandering for countless years?

Again too many questions

from this savage place where

the homeless people both live and die.

Too many heartbreaks in a land

where Death has become the landlord

and her children prey on the weak and the sick.

And though these brave people will not –

i would leave here if i could.

But i cannot…

…for soon it will be spring

and before long the bones of the dead

will be putting up their shoots

and soft water (instead of fire)

should fall

and a tree will lift up its head

and over a high hill in the distance

the only home we never lost

(nor one not taken away)

will wake.

 

Oh, here, hidden,

is this human heart

we all must seek!
